Residency for Ideas
The Residency for Ideas is an innovative initiative designed to foster creative exploration and critical thinking among emerging architects. This program, facilitated by New Practice, KCA Architects, and the Glasgow School of Art, offers a unique platform for young professionals to delve into the complexities of spatial relationships and market typologies. Through hands-on projects and collaborative efforts, participants are encouraged to transcend traditional architectural tools and methodologies, engaging all senses to document, analyze, and present market spaces. The residency aims to ignite imaginative conversations and fresh perspectives on familiar environments, honoring the memory of Emma Burke Newman (2000-2023) and her contributions to the field.
Making Sense; redefining markets from the spatial to the sensory.
Welcome to our in-person event at Many Studios! ‘Making Sense’ is the first iteration of the Residency for Ideas in memory of Emma Burke Newwman (2000-2023) a project facilitated by New Practice, KCA Architects and the Glasgow School of Art. As the first selected group of young architects, finding our feet in the industry, we have been investigating our own relationships with space (making) and who it is attributed to - with the barras in particular and the market typology more generally as our case study. Acknowledging the limits of traditional architectural tools, we document, analyse and present market spaces with all senses, in the aim to spark imaginative conversation about familiar places.
